VOLUNTEER GENERAL INFORMATION

Official Volunteers are critical to the success of the Relay. They are the workhorses that make this all happen. THANK YOU FOR YOUR WILLINGNESS TO ASSIST US. In addition to the two Official Volunteers, teams may (and are encouraged to) bring additional volunteers to help staff the race. Outward Bound Wilderness and other organizations have volunteers who help staff the race. This group of some 300+ volunteers is managed by the Volunteer Coordinator. Teams may request (request) a Day, time, exchange point or shift in the VOLUNTEER ASSIGNMENT DATABASE.
With the number of volunteers and the number of exchange points and need for volunteers, the Race
cannot guarantee placement or time.

DIRECTIONS:

  • The Volunteer Assignment Database will display "OPEN" assignments and filled assignments (it will say "CLOSED" or have a person's name in the field).
  • Find an assignment that you can fulfill
  • Click the Assignment Name -- most browsers will open an email window for you with the Assignment Name in the Subject Line.
  • Add the Volunteer Name, Team name, email, phone, gender and T-shirt size to the email. Send to volunteer@coloradorelay.com
  • We will confirm your Assignment.
  • (NOTE: if your browser does NOT open an email window, send an email to us with all the above information)
  • Updates to the Volunteer Assignment Database will continue through 8/29/2008 including updates to Assignment Times, duties and other information.
  • We plan on having the Volunteer Assignments finalized on 9/1/2008. Please ensure that you (the volunteer) or your volunteer (if you are a team captain) checks their assignment carefully just prior to the Event.

Please attend the Volunteer Meeting if possible. All volunteers will be contacted with the details of their assignment prior to the event.

RULES:
Each team, with at least one participant living within 100 miles of any point of the route, is REQUIRED to provide 2 official volunteers to work on the course at one of the 29 Exchange points, start line or finish line. Ultra Teams with a runner living within 100 miles are required to have 1 Official Volunteer. Teams who supply an Exchange Chief will be waived of having to supply a 2nd Volunteer.

If your team cannot supply 2 official volunteers for the event there are three options.

  1. You will be charged $50 if you only provide one official volunteer or $175 if you supply no volunteers, OR
  2. You may supply one volunteer who works 2 shifts OR
  3. You may supply an Exchange Chief who counts as two Official Volunteers.

If your team would like to have your volunteers work two shifts or staff one exchange point entirely, please request that from the Volunteer Assignment Database. You will get extra special kharma points for this. Thank you!

Please contact the office with specific questions: 303-670-7147 or race@coloradorelay.com.

Volunteers are critical to the success of the Relay including checking in runners at exchange points, directing traffic, assisting teams, running hydration stations, setting the course and assisting management staff.
